We invite experts and practitioners to contribute to the scientific programme of the Swiss Conference on Disaster Health 2027 KATAMED by submitting an abstract.
Submitted abstracts will be integrated into the scientific programme and presented as part of selected keynote sessions, contributing directly to the thematic focus areas of the congress.
Abstracts can be submitted within the main focus areas of the congress, including:
- Preparedness and response in major incidents and disasters
- Management of mass casualty situations
- Interdisciplinary coordination between healthcare systems, emergency services and authorities
- Crisis communication and leadership under pressure
- Lessons learned from national and international events

Presentation Formats
Accepted abstracts will be presented in two formats:
- Keynote-integrated presentations
Selected abstracts will be incorporated into keynote sessions and presented in the respective thematic context - Visual Abstracts
Further accepted contributions will be presented as visual abstracts, providing an opportunity for concise and accessible presentation and discussion

Notification to authors
All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee based on scientific quality, relevance and contribution to the programme.
Abstract Submission Guidelines
- Abstracts should describe current research projects, innovative initiatives, or relevant case studies related to disaster health.
- Abstracts that have previously been presented or published elsewhere may also be submitted. Authors are kindly requested to indicate any previous presentation or publication during the submission process.
- Abstracts must be submitted in English. In line with the multilingual nature of the conference, accepted abstracts may be presented in German, French, Italian, or English, allowing presenters to deliver their presentation in their preferred language.
- Accepted abstracts will be presented either as:
- Oral Presentation within a Scientific Session, or
- Visual Abstract / Poster Presentation.
- Abstracts should follow the standard structure:
- Introduction
- Methodology
- Results
- Discussion and Conclusions
- Implications for Practice
- The abstract body is limited to 2,500 characters (approximately 300 words, including spaces).
- Please ensure that your abstract is carefully proofread before submission. The abstract will be published exactly as submitted, and no language editing or proofreading will be provided after submission.
- Standard abbreviations may be used. Uncommon abbreviations must be defined in parentheses when first mentioned. Abbreviations should not be used in the title.
- To ensure a blinded review process, the abstract text must not contain any information that could identify the authors, their institutions, or affiliations.
- Abstracts submitted by email cannot be accepted. All abstracts must be submitted via the online abstract submission system.
- All submitted abstracts will undergo an anonymous peer-review process conducted by a Scientific Review Committee appointed by KATAMED. The committee is responsible for the final selection and acceptance of abstracts.
- Authors will be notified of the review outcome by mid-January 2027.
- Authors of accepted abstracts are required to register for the conference in order to present their work.
Publication
All accepted abstracts will be published on the official conference website.
